To maintain an active network of collaborators in health outcomes research

Most researchers and practitioners undertaking health outcomes related activities in Australia register their projects with us by completing our project registration proforma. This enables us to assist health personnel by liaising and collaborating with other personnel throughout Australia and New Zealand that are working in similar fields. Project registration can lead to conjoint activities and enable data comparisons but is also useful in allowing you to learn from what others have done.

To maintain a database of health outcomes projects and instruments

The Research Activities and Instrument Database (RAID) contains projects registered with us on our research activities (registration) proforma. The proforma provides full details of the types of activities we register on our database. If you are undertaking health outcomes activities please register your project with the Australian Health Outcomes Collaboration.

We have also reviewed a number of the measures and instruments that are commonly used to measure health outcomes. On our web site you will find sample reviews of the SF-36 and SF-12 instruments. We have reviews available for approximately 70 instruments and can put you in touch with other groups that have undertaken such reviews.

To facilitate health outcomes research throughout Australasia

The annual health outcomes conference began in 1995 and the number of participants has grown every year. We have many health outcomes personnel that attend the conference from New Zealand and Asia. The conference is important in facilitating the development of a health outcomes culture in health services throughout this region. Other activities include customised training seminars and our enquiry and information services.

To provide advice on the selection of measures for health outcomes assessment

The staff of the Collaboration and their associates have reviewed many of the commonly used instruments and can provide you with practical advice on how to implement these measures in the field. The Collaboration regularly provides information and advice to governments throughout Australia concerning the selection of measures for major projects.

To provide health outcomes education and training

Every year we have our major international conference on health outcomes and this is also preceded by a number of pre-conference workshops. The conference and the workshops include key health outcomes personnel from overseas. In association with the conference we also hold a major seminar with our international speakers in either Sydney or Wollongong just prior to the conference.

The Collaboration also regularly offers a workshop 'An Introduction to Health Outcomes' and 'Health Outcomes and Community Care'. These workshops can be customised for particular issues or health groups throughout Australia. The Director of the Collaboration also presents papers on health outcomes issues to many health services and conferences.
